How to play the arrow puzzle

Every arrow on the board looks in one direction – the way its head points. An arrow can only leave the board in that direction, and only if every square between its head and the edge is empty. Your job is to work out an order that lets every arrow out.

  1. Find an arrow with a clear lane. Look along the direction of each arrowhead. If you can see open space all the way to the border, that arrow is free.
  2. Tap or click it. The whole arrow, including any bends in its body, slides off the board.
  3. Watch what opens up. Removing one arrow frees squares that other arrows needed. That is how chains of moves appear.
  4. If you tap a blocked arrow, it bumps against whatever is in the way and the blocker flashes red. That tells you which arrow to clear first.
  5. Clear everything to finish the board, then try a harder size or the daily puzzle.

Bent arrows are read from the head: the arrowhead decides the direction, no matter how the tail curls behind it. Press Hint any time to highlight an arrow that can leave right now, or Undo to put the last arrow back. A fuller walkthrough with a diagram is on the how to play page.

Difficulty levels

LevelBoardWhat to expect
Easy6 × 6Short arrows and shallow chains – a good warm-up, about a minute.
Medium9 × 9Longer arrows, a few bends, and chains several steps deep. The daily puzzle uses this size.
Hard13 × 13Winding arrows that overlap each other's lanes. Needs a bit of planning.
Expert18 × 18A crowded board with long, curled arrows. Take your time and scan edge by edge.

Measured numbers for every level (arrows per board, chain depth) are on the difficulty comparison page.

Relaxed or Classic?

In Relaxed mode a blocked tap costs nothing, so you can learn the board by poking at it. In Classic mode you start each board with three hearts and every blocked tap costs one – a better test of careful reading.

Why people like arrow puzzles

Easy rules, real thinkingOne rule – follow the arrowhead – is enough to start, yet bigger boards hide long chains of dependencies.
Short sessionsAn easy board takes about a minute and a medium one a few, so it fits a coffee break or a commute.
Fair by designEvery board is generated with a guaranteed solution, so you never lose to a dead end – only to a missed arrow.

Arrow puzzle FAQ

What is an arrow puzzle game?

An arrow puzzle game is a logic game played on a grid packed with arrows. Each arrow can only leave the board in the direction it points, and only when nothing is in its way. You solve the board by finding the right order to remove the arrows.

How do I play the arrow puzzle?

Tap or click an arrow whose straight path from its head to the edge of the board is empty. It slides off. If another arrow is in the way, the tap is blocked and the blocking arrow flashes red. Clear every arrow to win.

Is every board solvable?

Yes. Each board is built so that a valid order always exists, and removing an arrow can only open up space, never close it. If you get stuck, press Hint to highlight an arrow that can leave right now.

Is Arrow Puzzle Hub free? Do I need to download anything?

It is free and runs entirely in your browser on phones, tablets and computers. There is nothing to download and no account to create.

What happens when I tap a blocked arrow?

The arrow bumps forward and the arrow blocking it flashes red. In Relaxed mode nothing is lost. In Classic mode each blocked tap costs one of your three hearts, and the board ends when they are gone.

How does the daily arrow puzzle work?

The Daily button loads a medium board generated from today's date (UTC), so everyone who plays that day gets the same puzzle. Solving it on consecutive days builds a streak that is stored in your browser.

How can I share a puzzle with a friend?

Press Share link. The page address contains the puzzle's seed number and difficulty, so anyone who opens the link plays exactly the same board.

Is my progress saved?

Your best times, difficulty choice and daily streak are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing your browser data resets them.
